Running Low on Fun

I determined somewhere, in the everyday drum of life....fun kind of slipped away.  Yes, the last few months have given me enough of a jolt to scare fun completely out of my life but I have decided I want to have fun.  I NEED to have fun.  I used to be fun, I think???  I am ready for some fun and this summer we are going to have some cotton pickin' fun!

There is going to be laughter and joking and silliness and lots of water and sunshine!  We are going learn new things, try new things and stretch ourselves to smile more.  No more missing minutes which grow into hours which stretch into days....no more.  Life is literally too short and I am terrified of letting it be too late.

So tell me what do you have planned for fun this summer?  Walking in the rain?  Dancing to some ridiculously fun music? Holding hands with a special someone? Eating cake for dinner because you can?  Floating down a lazy river or goofing off and just letting life happen? Blowing bubbles just to see where they land?

Tell me what your fun is going to be?

Green Beans & Summertime

There are certain things that will whisk me back to summertime in my childhood immediately; the sight of a lightning bug, the sound of a Bob White, the smell of lake water, but nothing takes me back there quicker than fresh green beans.  Just putting my hand into a pile of fresh beans will send me back to hot summers afternoons in North Georgia faster than anything else.  There is just something about the cool texture, the sound and smell of a newly snapped green been that will transport me over the years to a spot next to a grandmother or aunt with a kitchen towel in her lap stringing and snapping away…Maybe those beans were being prepared for supper or maybe to be canned but there was something therapeutic about the experience.  Maybe the therapy was more rest from a long day or maybe it was where these women of my past made peace with theirs.

It is a ritual that I have continued and for some reason I have to do it like they did…with a kitchen towel draped over my lap and a colander to catch my newly strung beans.  Even though I have to buy my beans at the farmer’s market it is one of the simple joys in life…to sit there stringing and snapping beans.  Of course, the ritual isn’t complete until those beans are slow cooked on the stove all afternoon with a piece of side meat for flavor.
Yes, green beans and summertime...

Summertime!!!

Summer is here!  School is out, baseball is almost finished, friends have graduated and we are ready!  I am so looking forward to this summer.

This year I want to make sure we experience a true summer, one filled with fun, hot, lazy days and friends.  We haven’t made any plans to go on a trip this summer but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to see new things, meet new people and experience different and exciting things!  I also don’t want to see my boys waste their summer in front of a TV or video games.  I am determined to make this a summer of fun.  Of course, I have to say Pinterest (yep, that again) has given me some major motivation and inspiration for fun things to do and create this summer.  I am going to cook new things, do some crafting and some DIY home projects and play!!  We are kicking it all of tomorrow with a big pool party and I can’t wait.

What are you planning for this summer?

Better catch it while you can…it won’t be here forever!
