Joy

Yesterday I had the high honor of taking off with my youngest son, now that the older 2 are back in school, and heading to up to a lake in the mountains for a day of swimming and play. Amazingly, the lake was abandoned (I suppose because of school being back in session) so DS and I had the great pleasure of having the beach area completely to ourselves.

It was a glorious summer day…clear blue skies with fluffy white clouds floating by on occasion, a calm lake with water just the perfect temperature to keep your skin comfortable under the golden sun. It was wonderful. We swam, danced in the water, watched the butterflies gathering on the sand for a drink, sang lots of songs and built sand walls (sorry, he just wasn’t into castles but preferred walls).

As I sat on the beach and played with my little man I just enjoyed every simple, plain moment of it. It was an afternoon that reminded me just how much joy is in the journey. I am so blessed to be called, “Mommy”. I love being a Wife and Mother. Unfortunately, I forget that when I feel rushed, tired and over-extended; when the world comes calling, and stealing the quiet from my life, I forget that. I am going to try to do better to remember that always, every day.

"Pour out your heart like water
before the face of the Lord.
Lift your hands toward Him for the
life of your young children."
Lamentations 2:19

  1. Dear Belle,
Thanks so much for visiting my blog. It sounds like you had a wonderful day. My children are grown and gone now, and I can remember days I wished I could make time stand still and keep them little forever. You are wise to savor the moments.
I love what you said about prayer. There are times I marvel in the thought that no matter how many voices are raised to heaven at any one particular moment, God hears me as if I were His only child. He bends down to listen to what I have to say. Miraculous!

  8. You captured the day, the moment, wonderfully. What a sweet memory it will be to cherish always. It's so vital to our sanity: to stop and be present in what's happening to us, to be able to recognize & relish these ephemeral moments of sheer bliss. I believe these moments happen to everyone; it's only the wise and perhaps the poets who can effectively capture them and bring them out whenever they wish. thanks for sharing it. :)

  9. Hi! I found your site from a few others, including Grafted Branch, so thought I'd visit. I loved this post!

I have two girls, ages 4 and 7. I had them a little later in life and am doing my best to savor each day- each moment. However, sometimes it's so easy to be rushed, or annoyed...and then forget for awhile. Great reminder!

I liked reading your profile...although I'm from the northwest, I am also one of those throwbacks from another era.

It's nice to "meet" you...and your little boy is so adorable!

    Come by and visit anytime!

    Blessings,
    ~Tammy

  11. Miss Belle-ah
My children are grown and while I wouldn't necessarily want to do it over again, it's moments like those you speak of that I wish I could have put in a bottle and been able to open later. If just for a moment. To relive that moment of joy, or pride, or excitement and sometimes even pain (for moms), of seeing your child accomplish things in life and grow as a person and Christian.
The older I get the harder to recall those precious moments. It is good to see you savoring them.
It is these times you speak of now that you truly have to trust in the Lord and the foundation DD has in her Christian walk.
I will pray for your strength as well as DD' as she enters this new phase in her life.

  14. That is one of the things I really love about public school...the opportunity to spend time with my baby like I did with the first one. I feel it is so important to develop that bond with all your children and give them all a piece of you with your attention completely on them. I'm glad you guys had such a great day!

  15. Barefoot...I am not sure I understand the public school reference? I am probably just really missing your point (obviously) but how does it tie in? LOL I have one in public and one in private and my youngest will start his preschool year next week (this year he goes 4 mornings a week!).

  16. Oh, that sounds like such a perfect day.

You're so right about stopping to appreciate and reflect on the simple, beautiful, joyful moments of our lives. Happy times like that with my kids or husband or just even when I'm alone and am looking at something beautiful or feeling peaceful and happy are what makes life worth living.
