Happy, Happy Birthday

18
I have been melancholy the last few days, wondering where the time has gone. Today may be the last time she sits at my table for breakfast on her birthday. She is charting a course away from us and though we support her an are proud of her, I can't imagine her not being here. Just yesterday I sat at the mall eating lunch and watched a Mother with a small daughter riding the Merry Go Round. I wanted to catch her sleeve and say breathe it all in, grab every moment, because sooner than you can imagine you will be me.
We mothers are learning to mark our mothering success by our daughters' lengthening flight.

  2. She is just beautiful! :) I KNOW I should cherish it, but it is soooo hard when I just had to literally chase her through the house to get her to go upstairs for a nap....grrr...

    Hope the birthday is wonderful!

  3. What a beautifully written post! She is a stunner, and if she'd like you, I know she's beautiful on the inside as well as on the outside. You must be beaming with pride!

  5. I so understand EXACTLY what you mean. I am so glad that I gave mine wings, but sometimes I wish they hadn't used them ;-) You understand. I see women with their children, too, and want to say the same thing. It does go by so quickly - a cliché, but true. She is beautiful! How proud you are!! xoxo
