I have been in the mood to bake and cook lately.  I don't know if it is because of my "new" kitchen or just the approaching fall that has brought me this new enthusiasm for the kitchen arts.  On Saturday, we had planned to have some friends over for dinner, but one of our children was sick so we had to reschedule, but I still managed to create the meal that was planned for our own little private dinner party.  I used several recipes from Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade magazine (the September/October issue).  Yes, I do like Sandra Lee!

My favorite was the Spiced Walnut Cake with Maple Cream!  IT was the perfect fall cake and made the house smell just fabulous, and I think it was even better on day 2!
My photo of the cake slices don't do this cake was yummy and beautiful!

  1. Oh, I can just imagine how good your house smelled....ummmm, and that cake looks wonderful...what kind of muffins/cupcakes did you make?

    Sorry little guy was sick!

  2. I cooked yesterday too:) It's hard to do when you don't have your own stuff in your own kitchen. I made Pioneer Woman's apple dumplings. It was delish! The cake sounds really good.

  3. Yummy! I love baking/cooking this time of the year. I need to get off the computer and bake a little something for a group of college girls that's coming to the house this evening.

  4. Suzanne, those are take 3 balls of roll dough and place them in a greased muffin cup, brush with butter sprinkle with garlic and parsley and then let rise and bake...we love them. I usually will brush with butter again afterwards.

  5. Oh, I just adore a good Bundt cake recipe! & my mama *just* returned my (or wait, I think it was once hers...oh, well!) Bundt pan, so I need to welcome it back properly. =)

(Thank you for your kind comments on my blog during my tumultuous few days there. You are a dear!)

  6. I'm on a baking terror too Michelle, your cake looks wonderful. Fall is the BEST time of year for baking in my opinion. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Finally had a moment to blog hop and actually leave comments letting you know I was here! That cake looks yummy and I'm a Sandra Lee fan myself. Have a blessed week. Sandy

  8. You've been a busy bee lately! Looks delish!

  9. hey, I like Sandra Lee too :) you can count on her recipes to be fairly straight forward and good...

  10. Oh! Your little man - I mean...boy of fall is just too precious! I love that song (the video is fun, too!) Anyway, I'll bet that y'all just enjoy this time more than most!!!

Your cake is beautiful and looks yummy, too! Wish I had some......

Oh! and your kitchen! It's so bright and classic. So Southern... so deliciously southern! Don't you just love being from the south? We're so blessed, aren't we?!?!
Your kitchen needs to be featured in Paula Deen's magazine - it reminds me of pictures from her book "Savannah Style". Have you seen it? Gorgeous! Just like your kitchen!

Those peach dumplings sound delicious! I've made the apple dumplings like them - but for some reason... it never occured to me to use peaches! Duh, Julie (knocking on my head...)

I'm gonna let you go and love on your sick baby - I hope they're doing better.
    Many Blessings,

Thank you for stopping by...leave a little of your sparkle before you go!
